Dr. Dura-Bernal's lab is part of a team awarded a 2024 NIH Director's Transformative Research Award, led by Columbia University. These  awards “support exceptionally innovative, high-risk, and/or unconventional research projects with the potential to create or overturn fundamental paradigms fundamental paradigms.” The proposal titled “Astrocytes as the integrators of neuromodulator signals” and has wide-ranging implications for brain function and disease. His lab will develop a pioneering computational model of cortical circuits that incorporates detailed astrocyte morphologies and neuron-astrocyte molecular signaling pathways.

Congratulations to Itsaso Garcia-Arcos, Ph.D., on being awarded a $125,000 grant from JPMorgan, Trustee of the Alexandrine and Alexander L. Sinsheimer Fund, for her project proposal, Metabolic reprogramming of type 2 cells in pulmonary fibrosis. 

PsycheMERGE: Advancing Precision Psychiatry. Downstate (PI: Dr. Roseann Peterson) is 1 of 7 coordinated R01s awarded to  interdisciplinary team of investigators at twelve academic medical centers that brings together clinical data (>29 million individuals), genetic data (>1.9 million), and an extraordinary range of scientific expertise to advance this mission. The PsycheMERGE Network aims to advance equitable precision psychiatry in learning healthcare system frameworks across the United States.

Drs. Tiedge and Berardi were selected for the 2024 SUNY Technology Accelerator Fund (TAF) award. Henri Tiedge and Valerio Berardi developed new therapeutics that target BC200 RNA, a small non-coding RNA demonstrated to be a driver of breast cancer transformation and progression.
