Staffing Updates

The Sponsored Programs Administration team welcomes two new hires -

             Marcy Adams (Sponsored Programs Administrator)

Marcy joins us from her alma mater, Clarkson University, where she served as the pre award

lead in their Sponsored Research Services Department.  Her responsibilities included a

cradle to grave approach; working with faculty to initiate the proposal, composing materials,

and finally submitting to the sponsor on their behalf. Her goal for further professional

development while at SUNY Downstate is to become a Certified Research Administrator (CRA).

She enjoys her country life in upstate NY (very close to the Canadian border) with family,

her garden, and as many traveling experiences as she can get.

Accounts Payable/Procurement -

We are actively recruiting for a Procurement Specialist. Please remember there is a 4-5 business day turnaround time on all orders and payables.

Clinical Trials -

An additional CRC is being onboarded to our clinical trial pool. Investigators can request CRC support for clinical trials.  Requests for CRC support can be found on our website and submission of this form.

New Systems

  • Jaggaer, the e-Procurement system is live. Training and use of the system will be rolled out in early January to individual departments until the entire campus is trained in using the system. Jaggaer works as both an e-Procurement system and a Payables system and will replace paper purchase requisitions and payment vouchers.

  • Interview Exchange is currently being tested by the HR team. This is an applicant/candidate tracking system and when live, this will replace the paper P-10 form. Within the next couple of weeks, researchers will be sent a simple questionnaire asking for some information required to pre-populate the system of those in your area that may be responsible for HR activity. This is expected to be rolled out to departments in early 2024 and we’ll keep you posted as to the go-live date.

Campus Decentralization

Decentralizing from RF Central in Albany is being done in a phased approach and we have already taken over some of the responsibilities previously assigned to the RF Central Office. Decentralization will save us money and provide value-added services on campus to all researchers.

  • Sponsored Programs Administration has taken over FDP subawards and federal subaward reporting. Awards that have outside collaborators via a subaward are now being issued and signed on campus. All FDP inbound subawards are also being signed on campus. The next phase for SPA is award establishment, allowing us to set up all awards on campus. Award establishment is planned for the 2nd quarter of 2024.

  • Sponsored Programs Finance will be trained on invoicing and accounts receivable within the 1st quarter of 2024.

Research Foundation Team Talks IP at Downstate

Members of the Research Foundation’s (RF) Industry and External Affairs team shared information about technology transfer and the importance of protecting intellectual property with a receptive Downstate audience at the 3rd Annual Research Open Forum  on December 11. Their presentation, which highlighted programs and services that are available to help faculty move their ideas from the lab to the marketplace, was followed by a vigorous Q&A session. “The questions led to some incredible conversations,” said RF Licensing Manager Andrew Scheinman. “Research at Downstate is outstanding and offers endless opportunities.”

According to RF Intellectual Property Manager Mahfuz Miah, it’s never too early to talk to the RF about a potential invention. “We enjoy hearing about new ideas. Talk to us early, talk to us often – we don’t need to wait for results or a fully drafted manuscript to begin working on a commercialization plan.”

Contact Andrew and Mahfuz directly at andrew.scheinman@rfsuny.org, mahfuz.miah@rfsuny.org or jump on their calendar using this link for a Zoom call. They are also on campus every month to meet in person. Be sure to reach out!
